Where Travel Becomes Story
Sunny Portugal featuring Porto
Safe, welcoming and endlessly photogenic, Portugal is one of Europe's most rewarding classrooms. Lisbon's maritime monuments and the fairy-tale palaces of Sintra fill the first half of these six days; a rail ride north then opens Porto's historic riverside and the terraced Douro Valley — with fado, markets and tastings bringing the culture within reach of every student.
Day by Day
Day 1
Arrival in Lisbon
Your group lands at Lisbon Airport, where your BRACAP Tour Manager is waiting with the private coach for the transfer to your hotel. The afternoon is free to find your feet on the mosaic pavements of the Baixa or ride the famous yellow tram past tiled façades. A relaxed welcome dinner brings everyone together for the days ahead.
Day 2
Lisbon — Monuments of the Age of Discovery
A morning in Belém tells the story of the explorers: the fortified Belém Tower guarding the river mouth and the UNESCO-listed Jerónimos Monastery, whose cloisters rank among Europe's finest. After lunch — and a warm pastel de nata from the famous bakery nearby — the afternoon climbs through the Alfama's lanes towards São Jorge Castle for views over the rooftops.
Day 3
Sintra & a Night of Fado
A short drive into the wooded hills reaches Sintra, the summer retreat of Portuguese kings. The morning visits the romantic Pena Palace, its ramparts painted crimson and gold above the forest, with time in the old town for lunch. Back in Lisbon, the evening brings a fado experience — Portugal's soulful music tradition, performed live over a shared meal.
Day 4
North by Rail to Porto
A comfortable train carries your group north through the countryside to Porto, Portugal's second city and the home of port wine. After check-in, a guided walk explores the historic riverside: the tumbling houses of the Ribeira, the double-deck Dom Luís I Bridge and the cathedral above. The evening is free on the lively quayside. Overnight in Porto.
Day 5
The Douro Valley by Scenic Train
One of Europe's great railway journeys unfolds this morning as the scenic train follows the Douro River east between terraced vineyards. Back in Porto, the afternoon visits the Bolhão market for a guided tasting of regional cheeses, breads and sweets. A farewell dinner overlooking the river closes the learning — and the eating — in style.
Day 6
Farewell Porto & Departure
After a final Portuguese breakfast there is time for last souvenirs — a tin of sardines, a bottle of port for the parents — before your BRACAP Tour Manager coordinates all transfers to Porto Airport. The team assists with check-in and luggage, closing six days in which Portugal proved itself one of Europe's friendliest classrooms.
