    Berlin, Divided and Reunited

    Duration5 Days
    CountryGermany

Little of the Berlin Wall still stands, which is exactly why your group follows its line with a guide, from the border strip at Bernauer Strasse and Checkpoint Charlie to the murals of the East Side Gallery. The days that follow open a Stasi prison, the Palace of Tears and Potsdam's Glienicke Bridge, tracing the city's story from division to reunification.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Brandenburg Gate & the Reichstag

Your group lands at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, where a BRACAP representative is waiting for the private transfer into the city. After check-in, a first walk leads to the Brandenburg Gate, which stood in the no-man's-land of the divided city, and on to the Reichstag, where the group climbs the glass dome above the parliament chamber. A welcome dinner follows. Overnight in Berlin.

    2

    Day 2

Following the Line of the Wall

Breakfast, then a local guide leads the group along the line of the Wall. At the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse, a preserved stretch of border strip and a watchtower show how the city was cut in two. The walk continues to Checkpoint Charlie, the Allied crossing point, and ends at the East Side Gallery, the longest surviving section, covered in murals. Overnight in Berlin.

    3

    Day 3

    Life Under the Stasi

After breakfast the coach heads east to the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial, the former remand prison of the Stasi, East Germany's secret police, where a guided tour leads through its cells and interrogation rooms. In the afternoon the group visits the Palace of Tears at Friedrichstrasse station, the border hall where families said goodbye across the divide. The evening is free. Overnight in Berlin.

    4

    Day 4

Potsdam & the Bridge of Spies

Breakfast, then south-west to the Glienicke Bridge, where East and West exchanged captured agents during the Cold War. In Potsdam the guide shows the Cecilienhof from the New Garden, the country house where the Allied leaders met in the summer of 1945, before a walk through the park of Sanssouci. The group returns to Berlin for a farewell dinner. Overnight in Berlin.

    5

    Day 5

    Reunited Berlin & Farewell

Breakfast, then a last walk from Museum Island to Alexanderplatz, the showpiece square of East Berlin, beneath the television tower East Germany raised as a symbol over the whole city. At the agreed hour a private transfer takes the group to Berlin Brandenburg Airport, closing four days spent between a divided city and its reunified capital. End of our services.
