    Northern Lights in Norway

    Duration7 Days
    CountryNorway

Winter Norway at its purest: guided northern lights hunts, a Sami reindeer camp and Arctic fjord panoramas, all lived from a single snow-dusted base in Tromsø, 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Seven days deep in the auroral zone, with the silent fjords of Kvaløya and the peaks of the Lyngen Alps at the door.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Arrival in Tromsø

Your group arrives at Tromsø Airport, where your BRACAP Tour Manager is waiting with a warm Arctic welcome. After a short transfer to your centrally located 4★ hotel, the afternoon is free to wander Storgata's wooden houses and the snow-lined harbour, with daylight fading into the long blue twilight of the polar winter. In the evening everyone gathers for a welcome group dinner and a briefing on the week ahead.

    2

    Day 2

    Tromsø & the Arctic Cathedral

A full day in the capital of the Arctic. The morning's guided walk covers Storgata, the harbour and the Polar Museum, where Tromsø's seal-hunting and expedition past comes to life. After lunch by the waterfront, your group crosses Tromsø Bridge to the Arctic Cathedral, its eleven aluminium-clad ridges echoing the mountains behind. At dusk the Fjellheisen cable car climbs to 421 metres for a panorama of city, fjord and snowbound peaks.

    3

    Day 3

    Kvaløya & the Sommarøy Coast

A scenic drive west across Kvaløya, the "Whale Island", where sharp peaks drop straight into open fjords. Photo stops at Kattfjord and Ersfjordbotn lead to Sommarøy, a fishing village ringed by white-sand beaches that glow even under snow. Lunch in the village before returning to Tromsø. After dark, your first guided northern lights hunt sets out, chasing clear skies wherever the aurora is most likely to appear.

    4

    Day 4

    The Sami & Their Reindeer

The day belongs to the Arctic's oldest living culture. At a traditional camp outside Tromsø, Sami hosts welcome your group among their reindeer herd — hand-feeding the animals, trying a lasso throw and, weather permitting, taking a short reindeer sled ride across the snow. Around the fire inside a lavvu tent, stories and joik singing open a window onto a way of life stretching back millennia. The evening is free in Tromsø.

    5

    Day 5

    Arctic Adventures, Your Way

A flexible day built around Tromsø's signature winter experiences. In season — roughly November to January — an optional whale-watching cruise heads out in search of humpbacks and orcas feeding in the fjords, while an optional husky sledding excursion puts your group behind a team of eager huskies on forest trails. Those preferring the city can browse its museums and cafés. After dark, the second guided aurora hunt departs.

    6

    Day 6

    The Lyngen Alps

A full-day excursion east along Ullsfjord, where a short ferry crossing brings your group face to face with the Lyngen Alps — a wall of glaciated peaks rising more than 1,800 metres straight from the sea. Photo stops and a warming lunch by the fjord precede the return to Tromsø, where the final evening is free to seek out one of the harbour's celebrated seafood restaurants.

    7

    Day 7

    Farewell to the Arctic

After a leisurely final breakfast there is time for last souvenirs along Storgata before your BRACAP Tour Manager coordinates all transfers to Tromsø Airport. The team assists with check-in and luggage, leaving your group with nothing but the memory of seven extraordinary Arctic days — and, with luck, the green glow of the aurora still fresh in everyone's minds.
