    Imperial Prague, Vienna & Budapest

    Duration9 Days
    CountryCzech-republic, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary

There is one imperial story behind the spires of Prague, the palaces of Vienna and the Danube embankments of Budapest, and your group follows it across three capitals. Licensed guides lead the visits to Prague Castle, Schönbrunn and Buda's Castle District, while Kutná Hora, a Wachau river cruise between spring and autumn and a walk through Bratislava fill the days in between.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Arrival in Golden Prague

Your group lands at Prague Airport, where a BRACAP representative is waiting for the private transfer into the city. After check-in, an early-evening walk leads to the Old Town Square to watch the Astronomical Clock mark the hour, then on through the lanes toward the Vltava. A welcome dinner in a traditional Bohemian cellar closes the first day. Overnight in Prague.

    2

    Day 2

    Prague Castle & Charles Bridge

Breakfast, then a licensed guide leads the group up to Hradčany and Prague Castle, with St Vitus Cathedral and the tiny houses of Golden Lane. The walk descends through the baroque streets of Malá Strana and crosses Charles Bridge among its statues of saints. The afternoon is free for the Jewish Quarter or a coffee in one of the city's grand cafés. Overnight in Prague.

    3

    Day 3

    Kutná Hora, the Silver Town

After breakfast the coach heads east into the Bohemian countryside to Kutná Hora, the medieval town that grew rich on silver. A guided visit takes in the Cathedral of St Barbara, its flying buttresses rising above the valley, and the bone-decorated ossuary of Sedlec. The group is back in Prague by mid-afternoon, with the evening free for a classical concert. Overnight in Prague.

    4

    Day 4

    Moravian Wine Country to Vienna

Breakfast and check-out, then the road runs south-east across Bohemia and Moravia. A lunch stop in Mikulov, a wine town crowned by its hilltop château, breaks the journey among the vineyards near the Austrian border. The coach reaches Vienna in the late afternoon, in time for a first stroll along the Ringstrasse and its grand facades. Overnight in Vienna.

    5

    Day 5

    Habsburg Vienna & Schönbrunn

The morning belongs to imperial Vienna with a licensed guide: the Hofburg, St Stephen's Cathedral and the palaces lining the Ringstrasse. In the afternoon the group visits Schönbrunn Palace, summer residence of the Habsburgs, and walks its formal gardens up to the Gloriette. The evening is free, perhaps for coffee and cake in a classic Viennese café. Overnight in Vienna.

    6

    Day 6

    Wachau Valley by Danube Cruise

Breakfast, then west along the Danube to Melk, where the baroque Benedictine abbey commands the river from its rock. From Melk the group boards a scheduled river cruise through the Wachau, a UNESCO landscape of vineyards, apricot orchards and castle ruins, and steps ashore at Krems. The coach returns to Vienna for an evening at a traditional wine tavern. Overnight in Vienna.

    7

    Day 7

Bratislava on the Way to Budapest

After breakfast the coach follows the Danube east to Bratislava, the Slovak capital, for a guided walk through the old town, from St Martin's Cathedral to the castle terrace above the river. Lunch is free in the pedestrian centre before the drive continues into Hungary. The group reaches Budapest in the late afternoon, with the evening at leisure. Overnight in Budapest.

    8

    Day 8

Buda, Pest & the Danube by Night

Breakfast, then a licensed guide crosses both halves of the city: Buda's Castle District with Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion, and Pest's grand avenue, Heroes' Square and the Parliament on the riverbank. The afternoon suits a soak in one of the historic thermal baths. At nightfall a dinner cruise on the Danube glides past the illuminated bridges. Overnight in Budapest.

    9

    Day 9

    Farewell to Budapest

Breakfast, then free time until the agreed hour for a last walk along the Danube promenade or a visit to the Great Market Hall, heaped with paprika and Hungarian produce. A private transfer then takes the group to Budapest Airport, closing a journey through three imperial capitals. End of our services.
