    Croatia, from Plitvice to Dubrovnik

    Duration9 Days
    CountryCroatia

Water shapes every stage of this week in Croatia: the terraced lakes and waterfalls of Plitvice, the harbour of Split around Diocletian's Palace, the oyster beds of Ston and the sea below the walls of Dubrovnik. Your group starts inland in Zagreb, then follows the coast south with local guides in each city, ending at sunset above the Adriatic on Mount Srđ.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Arrival in Zagreb

Your group lands at Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport, where a BRACAP representative is waiting for the private transfer into the Croatian capital. After check-in, an evening stroll crosses Ban Jelačić Square and climbs the lanes toward the Upper Town, where the gas lamps along the old streets are still lit by hand. A welcome dinner opens the journey south. Overnight in Zagreb.

    2

    Day 2

    Zagreb's Upper & Lower Town

Breakfast, then a local guide leads the group through Zagreb: the morning bustle of Dolac market, the cathedral, the Stone Gate with its shrine, and St Mark's Church with its tiled roof bearing the old coats of arms. The walk descends past the Lotrščak Tower to the parks and Austro-Hungarian facades of the Lower Town. The afternoon is free for cafés and museums. Overnight in Zagreb.

    3

    Day 3

    Rastoke & the Lower Lakes

After breakfast the coach heads south to Rastoke, near Slunj, where old watermills stand among the falls of the Slunjčica before it joins the Korana. At Plitvice Lakes National Park a local guide leads the afternoon walk along the wooden paths of the Lower Lakes, past turquoise pools and the Great Waterfall, with a boat across Lake Kozjak. Overnight at Plitvice.

    4

    Day 4

Upper Lakes to Šibenik & Split

An early breakfast leaves time for the Upper Lakes, where terraced pools spill into one another through the beech woods. The coach then heads south toward the coast to Šibenik, where the guide shows the Cathedral of St James, a Renaissance church built entirely in stone, before the drive continues along the Adriatic to Split. Overnight in Split.

    5

    Day 5

    Diocletian's Palace & Trogir

Breakfast, then a local guide leads the group into Diocletian's Palace, the Roman emperor's retirement home that became the heart of Split: the Peristyle, the vaulted cellars below and the Cathedral of St Domnius. In the afternoon the coach runs west to Trogir, a medieval island town of stone lanes, for a guided walk and time on its seafront. Overnight in Split.

    6

    Day 6

Makarska Riviera & Ston to Dubrovnik

After breakfast the road follows the Makarska Riviera beneath the Biokovo mountains, then crosses the Pelješac Bridge to Ston, where medieval walls climb the hill above the salt pans and oyster beds of the bay. After lunch by the water, the coach continues along the coast to Dubrovnik, reached in the late afternoon. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

    7

    Day 7

Dubrovnik's Old Town & City Walls

Breakfast, then a local guide leads the group through Dubrovnik from the Pile Gate: the Stradun, the Franciscan monastery, the Rector's Palace and the Old Port. The group then walks the circuit of the city walls, above terracotta roofs and the open sea, before a free afternoon in the lanes of the old town. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

    8

    Day 8

Dubrovnik at Leisure & Mount Srđ

A free morning follows breakfast, perhaps for an optional boat to the island of Lokrum or a swim below the walls. In the late afternoon a cable car climbs Mount Srđ, where the old town and the Elaphiti Islands lie spread out below as the sun sets over the Adriatic. A farewell dinner closes the journey. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

    9

    Day 9

    Farewell to Dubrovnik

Breakfast, then free time until the agreed hour for a last walk along the Stradun or a coffee in the Old Port. A private transfer then follows the coast road to Dubrovnik Airport, closing a week that ran from the capital's Upper Town to the southern tip of the Croatian coast. End of our services.
