    Poland, from Kraków to Warsaw

    Duration7 Days
    CountryPoland

For groups studying Europe's twentieth century, Poland turns the textbook into places: four nights in Kraków reach Wawel Hill, Kazimierz, the Wieliczka Salt Mine and a full day at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial with an official museum educator. An express train then carries your group to Warsaw, a capital rebuilt from ruin, for the Warsaw Rising Museum or POLIN and a private Chopin recital.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Arrival in Royal Kraków

Your group lands at Kraków Airport, where a BRACAP representative is waiting for the private transfer into the city. After check-in, an evening walk leads to the Main Market Square, with the Cloth Hall at its centre and the trumpet call sounding every hour from the tower of St Mary's Basilica. A welcome dinner of Polish cuisine follows. Overnight in Kraków.

    2

    Day 2

    Wawel Hill & Kazimierz

Breakfast, then a licensed guide leads the group up Wawel Hill to the Royal Castle and the cathedral where Polish kings were crowned and buried. The walk follows the Royal Road through the Old Town and, in the afternoon, into Kazimierz, the historic Jewish quarter, with its synagogues and courtyards. Dinner with live klezmer music closes the day. Overnight in Kraków.

    3

    Day 3

    Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial

After breakfast the coach heads west to Oświęcim for a visit, led by an official museum educator, to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. The visit covers both the original camp and Birkenau, and is given the time and respect it demands. The group returns to Kraków in the afternoon, with the evening left free for reflection. Overnight in Kraków.

    4

    Day 4

    The Wieliczka Salt Mine

Breakfast, then a short drive to Wieliczka, where a guided route descends through centuries-old salt galleries to underground lakes and the Chapel of St Kinga, carved entirely from salt. The group is back in Kraków by early afternoon, free for the Czartoryski Museum and its Leonardo portrait, or a last walk around the Planty gardens. Overnight in Kraków.

    5

    Day 5

    Express Train to Warsaw

After breakfast a private transfer takes the group to Kraków's main station for the express train north to Warsaw. After lunch a guided walk explores the Old Town, rebuilt after its destruction in 1944 and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, from the Royal Castle to the Barbican and the Market Square. Overnight in Warsaw.

    6

    Day 6

    Warsaw, the City Reborn

Breakfast, then a morning at the Warsaw Rising Museum, which tells the story of the city's uprising of 1944, or at POLIN, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. The afternoon follows the Royal Route to Łazienki Park and its Palace on the Isle. In the evening a private Chopin recital precedes the farewell dinner. Overnight in Warsaw.

    7

    Day 7

    Farewell to Warsaw

Breakfast, then free time until the agreed hour for last purchases along Nowy Świat or a coffee in the rebuilt Old Town. A private transfer then takes the group to Warsaw Chopin Airport, closing a week between the royal past of Kraków and the resilient spirit of the modern capital. End of our services.
