    Germany's Christmas Market Trail

    Duration7 Days
    CountryGermany

By the time your group reaches Munich, it has walked four other Christmas markets: Cologne beneath its cathedral, the old-town squares of Heidelberg, Rothenburg's Reiterlesmarkt and the Christkindlesmarkt of Nuremberg. Short guided visits in the Advent season leave the evenings free for the stalls, the gingerbread and the mulled wine, before a farewell dinner in a Bavarian beer hall.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Cologne beneath the Cathedral

Your group lands at Cologne Bonn Airport, where a BRACAP representative is waiting for the private transfer into the city. After check-in, the evening belongs to the Christmas market spread beneath the twin spires of Cologne Cathedral, then to the old-town market with its gingerbread and mulled wine stalls. A welcome dinner follows in a traditional brewhouse. Overnight in Cologne.

    2

    Day 2

    Cologne Cathedral & Heidelberg

Breakfast, then a guided visit inside Cologne Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture that holds the Shrine of the Three Kings. The coach then follows the Rhine south to Heidelberg, where the afternoon light falls on the red sandstone castle above the Neckar. The evening is free among the markets spread across the squares of the old town. Overnight in Heidelberg.

    3

    Day 3

    Rothenburg's Reiterlesmarkt

After breakfast the road leads east into Franconia to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a walled medieval town whose half-timbered streets frame the Reiterlesmarkt, one of Germany's oldest Christmas markets. A guided walk along the ramparts precedes free time among the stalls and Christmas shops. The coach continues to Nuremberg in the evening. Overnight in Nuremberg.

    4

    Day 4

    Nuremberg's Christkindlesmarkt

Breakfast, then a licensed guide leads the group through the old town of Nuremberg, from the Imperial Castle to the Beautiful Fountain on the Hauptmarkt. The square is home to the Christkindlesmarkt, whose red-and-white stalls sell hand-made ornaments, plum-people figures and Nuremberg gingerbread. The afternoon and evening are free among the stalls. Overnight in Nuremberg.

    5

    Day 5

    On to Munich

After breakfast the coach heads south through Bavaria to Munich, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon a guided walk crosses the old town, from the Frauenkirche to Marienplatz, where the Christmas market gathers beneath the neo-Gothic town hall and its Glockenspiel. The evening is free for the medieval market or the lights of the Residenz courtyard. Overnight in Munich.

    6

    Day 6

    Munich's Markets at Leisure

A free day in the Bavarian capital follows breakfast. Some may visit the treasures of the Residenz or the paintings of the Alte Pinakothek, others browse the craft stalls and the Christmas village in the Residenz courtyard. In the evening a farewell dinner in a traditional beer hall closes the market trail with Bavarian cooking and music. Overnight in Munich.

    7

    Day 7

    Farewell from Munich

Breakfast, then free time for last purchases at the Viktualienmarkt or a final cup of mulled wine among the stalls of Marienplatz. At the agreed hour a private transfer runs north to Munich Airport, closing a week of lights, carols and craftsmanship from the Rhine to Bavaria. End of our services.
