Where Travel Becomes Story
Finnish Lapland Under the Aurora
Aurora guides read the forecast and the sky each evening, and on up to three nights this week they take your group away from the lights of Rovaniemi to hunt the northern lights. By day, a husky safari, a reindeer farm, a snowmobile ride across frozen rivers and the Arctic Circle fill four nights at a single base in Finnish Lapland.
Day by Day
Day 1
Arrival at the Arctic Circle
Your group lands at Rovaniemi Airport, just south of the Arctic Circle, where a BRACAP representative is waiting for the short transfer into town. After check-in, thermal winter clothing is fitted for the days ahead. Arrival times permitting, the evening brings a first aurora hunt by coach, away from the town lights, with a guide who reads the forecast and the sky. Overnight in Rovaniemi.
Day 2
Huskies & a Reindeer Farm
Breakfast, then out into the snow-covered forest for a husky safari, the teams pulling sleds along frozen trails under the low Arctic light. After lunch by an open fire, the group visits a reindeer farm to meet the herders, hear about their way of life and ride a reindeer sleigh. The evening is free in town. Overnight in Rovaniemi.
Day 3
Snowmobiles & the Arctic Circle
After breakfast a guided snowmobile safari crosses frozen rivers and forest tracks, two riders to a machine. The afternoon leads to the Arctic Circle line at Santa Claus Village and on to the Arktikum science museum, which explains the northern lights and life in the far north. The evening brings a second aurora hunt, with hot drinks by the fire. Overnight in Rovaniemi.
Day 4
Lapland at Your Own Pace
Breakfast, then a free day to take Lapland at the group's own pace, with ice fishing on a frozen lake, snowshoeing in the forest or a traditional Finnish sauna offered as options. At dusk the farewell dinner features Lappish specialities, followed by a last night out in search of the aurora borealis. Overnight in Rovaniemi.
Day 5
Farewell to Lapland
Breakfast, and free time until the agreed hour for a walk along the frozen banks of the Kemijoki river or a last look through the town's design shops. A private transfer then takes the group to Rovaniemi Airport, bringing four Arctic nights of snow, silence and northern skies to a close. End of our services.
