    Germany's Rhine & Bavaria

    Duration8 Days
    CountryGermany

Before the castles of Bavaria come the castles of the Rhine: from the Rheingau vineyards your group cruises past the Loreley between spring and mid-autumn, then follows the Romantic Road through Würzburg, Rothenburg, Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen to Munich. From the Bavarian capital, one day reaches Neuschwanstein and the Wieskirche, and a free day leaves room for Salzburg.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Arrival in the Rhine Valley

Your group lands at Frankfurt Airport, where a BRACAP representative is waiting for the private coach to Rüdesheim, in the wine country of the Rheingau. After check-in, the afternoon is for the Drosselgasse and a cable-car ride over the vineyards to the Niederwald Monument, with the Rhine spread below. A welcome dinner pairs local cooking with Rheingau Riesling. Overnight in Rüdesheim.

    2

    Day 2

    Castles of the Middle Rhine

Breakfast, then the group boards a scheduled cruise through the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO landscape, gliding past hilltop castles, terraced vineyards and the rock of the Loreley. The coach meets the boat at St. Goar for a visit to the ruins of Rheinfels Castle before returning along the riverbank. The evening is free in the wine taverns. Overnight in Rüdesheim.

    3

    Day 3

    Würzburg Residence to Rothenburg

After breakfast the coach heads east into Franconia to Würzburg, where the Romantic Road begins, for a guided visit of the Residence and the Tiepolo fresco above its grand staircase. The road then leads south to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where evening falls on towers and half-timbered lanes, and the night watchman's tour closes the day. Overnight in Rothenburg.

    4

    Day 4

    The Romantic Road to Munich

Breakfast, then a morning walk along Rothenburg's covered ramparts before the Romantic Road continues south. Dinkelsbühl charms with its gabled merchant houses, and Nördlingen sits within a ring of medieval walls inside an ancient meteorite crater. The coach reaches Munich in the late afternoon, with the evening free in the old town. Overnight in Munich.

    5

    Day 5

    Munich, Bavarian Capital

Breakfast, then a licensed guide leads the group through the old town of Munich: the Frauenkirche, Marienplatz with its Glockenspiel and the Residenz of the Wittelsbach rulers. The afternoon is free for the Viktualienmarkt, the English Garden or the Pinakothek galleries, and the evening brings a Bavarian dinner in a traditional beer hall. Overnight in Munich.

    6

    Day 6

    Neuschwanstein & the Wieskirche

After breakfast the coach heads south into the Alpine foothills to Schwangau, where a timed visit leads through the rooms of Neuschwanstein, the fairy-tale castle of King Ludwig II. After lunch in the village, the return stops at the Wieskirche, a rococo pilgrimage church standing alone in the meadows. The group is back in Munich by evening. Overnight in Munich.

    7

    Day 7

    Munich at Leisure

A free day in Munich follows breakfast. An optional excursion runs to Salzburg, the city of Mozart, or to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site for a guided visit, while others stay for the Deutsches Museum or a last afternoon in a beer garden. A farewell dinner closes the journey. Overnight in Munich.

    8

    Day 8

    Farewell from Munich

Breakfast, then free time until the agreed hour for a last stroll through the old town or a visit to the Viktualienmarkt. A private transfer then takes the group to Munich Airport, closing a journey from the vineyards of the Rhine to the castles of the Bavarian Alps. End of our services.
