Project Description
Barcelona
FASHION TOUR
Barcelona has always been a city of creativity: the Modernist movement, born as an almost rebellious visual school against the classical and the pragmatic, brought decorative excesses and forms inspired by nature. The city, fruit of that imagination, has taken advantage of its avant-garde reputation throughout the years. Its designers have invested in local and sustainable products and its various fashion and design schools have helped it become a style mecca in recent years.
Are you ready to embark on a journey of discovery into the heart of Catalonia´s sustainable fashion capital?
Welcome to Barcelona!

BARCELONA: ECODESIGN AND THE BORN NEIGHBOURHOOD
Breakfast. This morning, you will have your first training session with Sylvia Calvo. We will analyse the current situation of the sector, the social and environmental impact of the textile industry, and we will learn about the main concepts of the circular economy.
In the afternoon, we will set out to discover with a local tour guide the ins and outs of El Born. With a trade union and textile tradition, this neighbourhood, a maze of alleyways around the Basilica of Santa María del Mar, is steeped in history, fashion, and culture, as well as designer shops and the coolest restaurants and venues in the city. Feel like you are on the set of a medieval film as you pass passing emblematic places such as the Palau de la Música or the Santa Caterina market.
At the end of the tour, you will take part in the workshop “Who made my clothes?” During this innovative workshop, you will discover the trendiest stores run by local designers, and learn to interpret what the labels on the garments tell us: where were they made? What materials are they made of? Can you find out if a brand has a social and environmental policy on how it makes its clothes? At the end of the day, you will enjoy a guided tour of La Casa de la Seda, the only remaining union house, the former headquarters of the Guild of Veils. Transfer back to the hotel for the night.

In the afternoon, you will visit Moda 22, the first coworking space and fashion incubator in Barcelona, with a factory and a shared workspace dedicated to the promotion and consolidation of companies in the textile sector. You will end the day with a fun e-bike tour around the Olympic Port and the Marina. Transfer back to the hotel and overnight stay.

We will conclude the day with a visit to MATERFAD, the Barcelona Materials Centre, which acts as an observatory of the future, conducting research for innovation, sustainability, and creativity through the materials themselves. Then, return to Barcelona.

Breakfast and last day of training, during which you will have a new talk on eco-design, emphasising its principles and the different contexts in which they can be applied.
In the afternoon, you will go to one of Barcelona´s most representative and alternative neighbourhoods, Gràcia, where you will experience the authentic atmosphere of the neighbourhood, full of narrow streets and busy squares that still retain that small town feel that is so attractive to visitors. Many of the designers with the sustainable & modern craft, km 0, and upcycling philosophy have their workshops here, which we will get to know on the way and with whom we will interact again in the workshop “Who made my clothes?”
Afterwards, your route will take us to the Paseo de Gràcia, where two of the most famous buildings of Catalan Modernism await us: the colourful Casa Batlló and Casa Milá, popularly known as “La Pedrera”, which we will visit on a guided tour.
