Italy, the Alps & Paris
Independent days anchored by well-connected hotels are the point of this fifteen-day route north through Rome, Florence, the Tuscan coast, Milan, Lucerne and Paris. Trains carry your group between bases, with private transfers to and from every station and one short road run to Viareggio; sightseeing stays flexible, with optional guided tours available in each city, from the Vatican Museums to Versailles.
Day by Day
Day 1
Arrival in the Eternal City
Your group lands at Rome-Fiumicino, where our staff are waiting in arrivals for the private transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for a first taste of the Eternal City: a stroll along the Via del Corso, or a gelato in Piazza Navona. The hotel sits on good public-transport links, so the centre is easy to reach independently. Overnight in Rome.
Day 2
Rome at Your Own Pace
Breakfast, then a free day to take Rome on foot, from the Trevi Fountain to the Pantheon and on through the baroque squares that give the city its atmosphere. The hotel's position makes the historic centre quick to reach. Optional regular tours, at extra cost and not included, cover the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica (four hours), or a long day to Naples and the Amalfi Coast (fourteen hours). Overnight in Rome.
Day 3
Imperial Rome, Freely Explored
Breakfast. Another free day to follow the traces of the Roman Empire at your own rhythm; we suggest the open ground around the Circus Maximus, then Trastevere as the light fades over its lanes and trattorias. An optional regular tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill (three hours) is available at extra cost, not included. Overnight in Rome.
Day 4
By Train to Renaissance Florence
Breakfast and private transfer to Roma Termini for the train north to Florence, cradle of the Renaissance. On arrival a private transfer takes your group to the hotel, leaving the afternoon free to admire Brunelleschi's dome over the cathedral and the Ponte Vecchio spanning the Arno. An optional regular tour combining the Accademia Gallery and a historical walk (three and a half hours) can be booked separately, not included. Overnight in Florence.
Day 5
Private Transfer to the Tuscan Coast
Breakfast, then a private road transfer west to the Tyrrhenian coast and the stately resort of Viareggio, known for its Liberty-style architecture along the seafront. This is the group's base for the next two nights, chosen for its comfort, its direct access to the beaches and its position for reaching the Ligurian coast. The rest of the day is free by the sea. Overnight in Viareggio.
Day 6
Viareggio Seafront or Cinque Terre
Breakfast. A free day to enjoy Viareggio's famous promenade or simply rest by the sea after the sightseeing of the previous days. The town's position makes it a convenient gateway to the natural treasures of coastal Tuscany and Liguria. For those who wish, an optional full-day regular excursion to the Cinque Terre by train and boat (nine hours) is available at extra cost, not included. Overnight in Viareggio.
Day 7
North by Rail to Milan
Breakfast and private transfer to the station, from where your group travels north by rail to cosmopolitan Milan. After the private transfer to the hotel the afternoon is free: the majestic white-marble Duomo is the obvious first call, followed by the luxurious Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II beside it, one of the world's grandest shopping arcades. Overnight in Milan.
Day 8
Through the Gotthard to Lucerne
Breakfast and private transfer to Milano Centrale for the train to Lucerne, crossing the Alps through the Gotthard tunnel. On arrival a private transfer takes your group to the hotel in this medieval jewel on the shore of Lake Lucerne, the Lake of the Four Cantons. The rest of the day is free to cross the famous Chapel Bridge and wander the old town. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 9
Lucerne, Peaks and Glaciers
Breakfast. A free day in Lucerne, ringed by mountains, or for browsing the fine watchmakers around Schwanenplatz. The hotel gives easy access to the lake piers and the main station, the two gateways for exploring Central Switzerland independently. Those who want the high Alps can take the optional regular excursion to Mount Titlis, with its rotating cable car and ice grotto (six hours), at extra cost, not included. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 10
Alpine Tradition and the Lake
Breakfast. A second full day in Lucerne, to dig deeper into its history or linger over Swiss cooking on the lakeside terraces. The excellent local transport network makes the city's museums and the picturesque villages nearby easy to reach on your own. An optional regular guided walk through Lucerne followed by a cruise on the Lake of the Four Cantons (two and a half hours) is available, not included. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 11
High-Speed Train to Paris
Breakfast and private transfer to the station, where your group boards the high-speed train bound for the French capital, trading Alpine lakes for the boulevards of Paris. On arrival at Paris Gare de Lyon a private transfer runs to the hotel, leaving the evening for a first night-time encounter with the world's most romantic city. Overnight in Paris.
Day 12
Art and Elegance in Paris
Breakfast. A free day to walk the Champs-Élysées or visit Notre-Dame Cathedral, the geographical heart of the city. Paris offers an endless cultural programme, and the nearby metro puts all of it within easy reach of the hotel. An optional regular tour pairing the Louvre Museum with a cruise on the Seine (four hours) can be booked at extra cost, not included. Overnight in Paris.
Day 13
Panoramic Paris
Breakfast. A free day to climb the Eiffel Tower or wander Montmartre, the painters' quarter, with its historic cafés. The city invites unhurried walks along its broad boulevards, heavy with history and Parisian elegance. An optional regular tour combining the Eiffel Tower and the Montmartre district (four hours) is available at extra cost, not included. Overnight in Paris.
Day 14
A French Farewell
Breakfast. A last free day for final purchases in the grand department stores or simply for the life of the city's café terraces. The hotel's smooth connection to the centre lets your group make the most of its final hours in Europe. Those wanting one more excursion can take the optional regular tour of the Palace of Versailles and its gardens (five hours), not included. Overnight in Paris.
Day 15
Departure from Paris
Breakfast. At the appointed time a private transfer takes your group from the hotel to Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport for the flight home, which is not included in this programme. Fifteen days end here, having linked Rome, Florence, the Tuscan coast, Milan, Lucerne and Paris with trains, private transfers and days left free for each traveller's own priorities.
