Adriatic Shores & Balkan Capitals
Six countries in a single overland arc: Ljubljana's dragon bridges, the Dalmatian coast down to Dubrovnik, then inland through Bosnia and Serbia toward Transylvania and Sofia. Seventeen days with guided walks in Ljubljana, Dubrovnik and Sarajevo, and free days in Split and Dubrovnik keeping the pace unhurried between long scenic drives.
Day by Day
Day 1
Zagreb Market & Ljubljana Evening
A Spanish-speaking driver-guide meets your group in Zagreb, where a first walk takes in the Old Town and the stalls of Dolac Market. A scenic drive then crosses into Slovenia. In Ljubljana a local guide leads the group through the old quarter, past Prešeren Square, the cathedral, the Triple Bridge and the Dragon Bridge, whisper radios in hand. Overnight in Ljubljana.
Day 2
Lake Bled & Riverside Ljubljana
Breakfast at the hotel opens a day given to the Julian Alps. An optional excursion runs to Lake Bled, where a traditional pletna boat crosses the emerald water toward the island and the panoramic castle holds the wider view. The group returns to Ljubljana in the afternoon for more time along the cobbled lanes and the romantic riverside terraces. Overnight in Ljubljana.
Day 3
Postojna Cave & Plitvice Lakes
After breakfast the route leaves Slovenia for Croatia. An optional stop at Postojna Cave opens an underground world of galleries reached by its electric train, before the drive continues south. Plitvice Lakes National Park arrives later in the day, and the evening belongs to the stillness of a park known worldwide for its winding wooden walkways and endless waterfalls. Overnight at Plitvice.
Day 4
Adriatic Road to Split
Breakfast precedes a scenic run down the Adriatic coast, past small fishing towns and long panoramic stretches of water. The group reaches Split in the afternoon with free time for a first walk, the sea breeze and the sunlit rhythm of the Croatian Riviera setting the tone for the days ahead. Overnight in Split.
Day 5
Diocletian's Palace at Leisure
A full free day follows breakfast. Some of the group take to the labyrinth of the Palace of Diocletian, a Roman prodigy still busy with shops and cafés; others join an optional sailing to the island of Hvar. A tasting of Dalmatian wines facing the Adriatic is another way to spend the afternoon. The evening stays free in Split.
Day 6
Dalmatian Rhythms by the Sea
Breakfast opens a second free day in Split with no fixed programme. The morning suits the sunlit seafront promenade, the afternoon the hidden corners of the old town, and the local terraces serve Dalmatian cooking while life by the water flows past. Nothing is scheduled, and the pace belongs entirely to your group. Overnight in Split.
Day 7
Pelješac Bridge & Ston Oysters
After breakfast the coastal road runs south, crossing the imposing Pelješac Bridge and passing Ston, known across Europe for the quality of its oysters. Dubrovnik appears in the afternoon, the fortified city rising above the water. Free time follows for a first contact with its polished stone streets, and the evening belongs to the old harbour. Overnight in Dubrovnik.
Day 8
Stradun & the Rector's Palace
Breakfast, then a local guide leads the group into the historic heart of the Pearl of the Adriatic. The walk runs the length of the Stradun, pauses at the Rector's Palace and the Franciscan Monastery, and follows the line of the legendary city walls, whisper radios keeping every detail audible. The afternoon and evening stay free in Dubrovnik.
Day 9
Free Day Above the Adriatic
Breakfast opens a free day inside the walled city. A panoramic hop-on hop-off bus is one way to take in the Adriatic coastline; the cobbled lanes of the old town are another, with hidden squares and centuries-old monuments at every turn. Lunch, afternoon and evening stay entirely in the hands of your group. Overnight in Dubrovnik.
Day 10
Trebinje & Mostar's Old Bridge
After breakfast the route crosses into Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a pleasant stop in Trebinje before the Blagaj Tekke dervish monastery, set against the pure springs of the Buna river. Mostar follows in the late afternoon, and free time in the old quarter ends with the Old Bridge lit against the night sky. Overnight in Mostar.
Day 11
Baščaršija & Tunnel of Hope
A calm free morning in Mostar gives the bridge its best light before the road turns north into central Bosnia. In Sarajevo the group walks Baščaršija, the Ottoman heart of the city, and then visits the Tunnel of Hope, the memorial complex that served as an unbreakable lifeline through the siege. Whisper radios carry every word. Overnight in Sarajevo.
Day 12
Mećavnik Railway & Belgrade
Breakfast, then the road to Serbia crosses country of singular natural beauty. A stop at a national park brings a nostalgic ride on the panoramic railway near Mećavnik. The drive continues to Belgrade, and free time in the evening opens a first immersion in the lively centre of the Serbian capital. Overnight in Belgrade.
Day 13
Kalemegdan Fortress & Knez Mihailova
The day belongs to Belgrade and its magnetic contrasts. The morning takes in Kalemegdan Fortress, eternal guardian at the meeting of the Sava and the Danube, and the elegant pedestrian run of Knez Mihailova. The rest of the day stays free, whether for the bohemian atmosphere of the older quarters or the sharper pulse of the newer districts. Overnight in Belgrade.
Day 14
Timișoara & Medieval Sibiu
After breakfast Serbia is left behind for the Romanian border and the legendary region of Transylvania. A stop in Timișoara allows a short visit before the drive continues. Sibiu is reached later in the day, and after dark a walk through the illuminated medieval old town takes in its cobbled squares and its seductive architecture. Overnight in Sibiu.
Day 15
Carpathian Passes & Bran Castle
Breakfast, then the road leaves medieval Sibiu for a spectacular crossing of the Carpathians. A stop in Brașov allows a visit to Bran Castle, where the stone towers of the Dracula myth rise over the valley. Late in the afternoon the group arrives in Bucharest, long known for its elegance as the Little Paris of the East. Overnight in Bucharest.
Day 16
Alexander Nevski & Vitosha Boulevard
Romania is left behind after breakfast for the Bulgarian border. Sofia is reached in the afternoon, in time for an evocative walk through the majestic centre of the capital. The immensity of the Alexander Nevski Cathedral and its gleaming domes anchors the route, which continues along the exclusive pedestrian stretch of Vitosha Boulevard. Overnight in Sofia.
Day 17
Rila Monastery & Farewell
Breakfast closes the Balkan adventure. Depending on schedules, a visit to the Rila Monastery crowns the route: the largest Orthodox sanctuary in Bulgaria and a UNESCO site whose mountain isolation, artistic beauty and spiritual legacy leave a lasting impression. A transfer back to Sofia closes the programme and our services end.
