Project Description
Barcelona
FASHION TOUR
Barcelona has always been a city of creativity: the Modernism, born as an almost rebellious visual school against the classic and the pragmatic, brought decorative excesses and forms inspired by nature. The city, fruit of that imagination, has taken advantage of its avant-garde reputation throughout the years. Its designers have invested in local and sustainable products and its various fashion and design schools have helped it become a style mecca in recent years.
Are you ready to embark on a journey of experiences to the heart of the sustainable Catalan fashion city?
Welcome to Barcelona!

ECODESIGN AND THE BORN NEIGHBORHOOD
Breakfast. This morning, you will have your first training session with Sylvia Calvo. We will analyze the current situation of the sector, the social and environmental impact of the textile industry, and we will learn what the main concepts of the circular economy are. In the afternoon, we will set out to discover the ins and outs of El Born. With a trade union and textile tradition, this neighborhood, a labyrinth of alleys that surrounds the Basilica of Santa María del Mar, accumulates history, fashion, and culture, as well as designer shops and the coolest restaurants and places in the city. Feel part of the set of a medieval film while you walk next to emblematic places such as the Palau de la Música or the Santa Caterina Market.
At the end of the walking tour, you will be part of the workshop “Who made my clothes?” Through this innovative workshop, you will discover the trendiest stores from the hand of local designers, and you will learn to interpret what the labels of the garments tell us: where were they made? What materials are they made of? Can you find out if a brand has social and environmental policies on how it makes its clothes? At the end of the day, you will enjoy a guided tour of La Casa de la Seda, the only remaining union house, former headquarters of the Guild of Veils. Transfer back to the hotel. Overnight.

In the afternoon, you will visit Moda 22, the first coworking space and fashion incubator in Barcelona, with a factory and a joint workspace dedicated to promoting and consolidating companies in the textile sector. You will end the day with a fun e-bike tour visiting the Olympic Port and the Marina. Transfer back to the hotel. Overnight.

ECODESIGN AND RECYCLED YARNS
After breakfast, private transfer from Barcelona to Sabadell, where you will get to know first-hand all the operations of Hilaturas Rubio, one of the main wool textile centers in Catalonia, from the preparation of the material, the carding, and the spinning process, to that of quality control and product delivery. Next, you will visit Hilaturas Arnau, a company with a pronounced interest in innovation, sustainability, and new markets, which have led them to produce yarns and fabrics of different materials and compositions. Lunch in Sabadell and return to Barcelona.
Free afternoon to enjoy the city. You can dedicate it to discovering corners through the alleys of the Gothic Quarter, where you can visit the Cathedral of Barcelona, along with the remains of the Roman wall, and end the day by walking through the most iconic street in Barcelona: La Rambla.

ECODESIGN AND THE GRÀCIA NEIGHBORHOOD
Breakfast and the last day of training, in which you will have a new talk on Ecodesign, emphasizing its principles and the different contents in which they can be applied. In the afternoon, you will go to one of the most representative and alternative neighborhoods of Barcelona, Gràcia, where you will experience the authentic atmosphere of the neighborhood, full of narrow streets and busy squares that still retain that air of a small town so attractive to visitors. Many of the designers with the sustainable & modern craft, km 0, and upcycling philosophy have their workspaces here, which we will get to know along the way and with which we will interact again through the workshop “Who made my clothes?”
After, your roadmap will take you to Paseo de Gràcia, where two of the most recognized buildings of Catalan modernism await: the colorful Casa Batlló and Casa Milá, popularly known as “La Pedrera”, in which you will have a guided tour.
In the evening, you will enjoy a farewell dinner and receive your certificates of participation.

ECODESIGN & TEXTILE TRADITION
Breakfast and last day of training. Today you will leave Barcelona towards the region of El Berguedà to dedicate this day to visit the Colonia Can Vidal, converted into a museum, and located in an idyllic setting that explains what life and work were like in a textile colony at the beginning of the 20th century. This industry was specialized in the manufacture of fabrics for high-quality sheets and piqué fabrics, a type of spinning that combined two different warps, which allowed them to manufacture fabrics with reliefs and shapes. Lunch at a local restaurant and return to Barcelona.
